Supporting Ontario’s agri-food and agri-product sector through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership
Guelph, ON – The Agricultural Adaptation Council will deliver Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) programming to Ontario organizations and collaborations on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
CAP is a federal-provincial-territorial initiative that assists government, industry and other partners to work together to advance Ontario’s agri-food and agri-products sector, and focus on achieving key outcomes related to economic development, environmental stewardship and protection and assurance.
The federal and provincial governments will be committing $417 million towards strategic initiatives to help grow this sector in Ontario and increase their competitiveness, productivity, and prosperity.
Through CAP, Ontario will continue to provide investments in research and innovation to support the transition and adoption of applied research into the market through knowledge mobilization.
Details about CAP programming for organizations and collaborations are now available. Strategic initiatives will support projects in three key priority areas, with research and innovation continuing to be a key focus across all programming:
Economic development in the agri-food and agri-products sector
Environmental stewardship to enhance water quality and soil health
Protection and assurance to reinforce the foundation for public trust in the sector through improved assurance systems in food safety and plant and animal health
Further program details including the program guide, pre-proposal and application forms are now available on the Agricultural Adaptation Council website at http://adaptcouncil.org/program/cap. The first application intake window will open on March 15 and close on April 5, 2018.
The CAP program will build on the successes of Growing Forward 2 and help government, producers and industry partners to create further economic growth for Ontario’s agri-food and agri-products sector.
The Agricultural Adaptation Council, a not-for-profit organization of more than 60 Ontario agricultural, agri-food and rural organizations, is based in Guelph and is a recognized leader in program delivery.
"I am pleased our partnership with the federal government will ensure Ontario’s agri-food sector continues to have the support it needs to grow, innovate and step up to the challenge of helping feed a growing population. This partnership will not only equip our sector with the tools and resources it needs to adapt to changes in the marketplace, but will allow for our sector to seize new opportunities and efficiently respond to any challenges. I look forward to a seamless transition in programming and continuing to work with industry and our federal partners."
